The Rocca that dominates the historical centre of Sala Baganza (PR) was built in 1461 and belonged to the Sanvitale family until 1612 when it passed to the Farnese dynasty. With a quadrangular shape, square towers at the corners and a central keep, the fortress was intended to be more a noble residence than a fortification. In the 1700s the garden was created, the interiors decorated with frescoes and plasterwork in the prevailing style and it became a hunting lodge.
The ancient building conserves a part dating to the 1500s with frescoes by Cesare Baglione, the Room of the Aeneid by Ercole Procaccini, the Hercules Room by Orazio Samacchini, in addition to the recently restored Cappella Palatina and the 18th century Oratorio dell'Assunta with its original furnishings.
