The Fusine lakes consist of two small bodies of water of glacial origin set in the midst of a thick red fir forest at the foothills of the Mount Mangart mountain range, in territory belonging to the municipality of Tarvisio (UD).
The deepest part of the upper lake is 10m and its surface area is 9 hectares; the lower lake is 25m deep in places and has a surface area of 13.5 hectares. Near the lower lake are two more bodies of water, known as the little lakes.
The area is situated in a valley that runs parallel to the border between Italy and Slovenia and is protected by the Fusine Lakes Natural Park.
