Perched on mount Buzio, close to the old city of Fara in Sabina (RI), the Monastery delle Clarisse Eremite rises on the ruins of the original castle of Fara linked for centuries to the history of the Abbey of Farfa. After centuries of conquest and reconstructions by Saracens and Emperor Henry IV, the castle became the residence for Commendatory Abbot of Farfa from 1400, belonging at different times to the Orsini, Farnese, Della Rovere, Savelli, Colonna, Peretti and Barberini families. Cardinal Francesco Barberini reorganized the complex in the 17th century, bounding the territory beneath with an enclosing wall to found the Monastery of the Clarisse Eremite in 1673.
The medieval castle has an ancient 15th century kitchen, the old refectory, a choir stall from the 17th century, a room containing the undecayed bodies of 17 monks, unchanged since the end of the 1700s, and the Museum of Silence.
