The recently-built Monastery of St. Vincent in the municipality of Bassano Romano (province of Viterbo) stands alongside the 17th century Church of St. Vincent commissioned and built by the Giustiniani family, owners of the church, palace and summer residence. In 1940, Prince Odescalchi donated the complex to the Sylvestrine monks of the Benedictine order.
The most important building in the complex is the church whose architecture is in the style of Jacopo Barozzi da Vignola, which can also be seen in Palazzo Giustinani in the town centre, many buildings on the outskirts of the town and numerous buildings in the city of Rome. The interior has no frescoes, simple plasterwork decoration and a monumental statue of the Risen Christ, only recently attributed to a young Michelangelo, created between 1514 and 1516 during his time in Rome. The sanctuary also conserves a life-size copy of the Sacred Shroud.
