The origins of Noarna Castle, in Nogaredo (Trento), can be traced to the 6th-7th century when the site was a fortified place, while the first documented information relating to the fortress dates to 1177.
The basis of the current structure (keep, fortifications, Guelph battlements) is 13th century. The watchtower is the first access point to the castle and was used to control the wooden drawbridge. Past the tower, a walkway leads to a second guard post, with a wooden door and a barred window, which stands alongside a crenelated wall with traces of a patrol walkway inside.
The keep, key element of the defensive structure, has a main tower adorned with a Guelph battlement, two guard rooms and prisons. The round arches from the pre-existing medieval structures are incorporated into the Renaissance-era and red stone walls that surround the keep. The courtyard of the keep provides access to the chapel which has a rectangular apse with round windows and cross vaults over apse and nave. The altarpiece The Coronation of the Virgin with Saints Nicholas and Francis, dating to 1580, is worthy of note.
