The 12th century Castle of Arco is located on the tip of a prominent spur overlooking the plain of the Sacra river and the city of Arco. Three streets lead directly to the castle, the residence of the counts of Arco during the Middle Ages, that wind past the last houses of the settlement through the olive trees that surround the hill before reaching the castle.
Past the last ring of walls is the Lizza lawn, a green balcony overlooking the Garda Trentino area, dominated by the three enormous walls of the large tower, the Sasso prison and the fresco room. The latter houses a cycle of 14th century frescoes of courtiers playing chess, Saint George killing a dragon and a lady arranging graceful rose garlands.
At the top, the last refuge in the event of a siege, is the renghera tower, which once housed the "renga", the bell which called all the inhabitants together.
