The Lighthouse of Punta Palascia is an evocative and enchanting spot, some 40km from Lecce. It is the easternmost point of Italy and a place of rare natural beauty: the perfect viewing place to watch a spectacular dawn rise from the sea. Recently restructured and safeguarded by the European Commission, the lighthouse is the symbol of Capo d’Otranto. The interest of the European Community has assisted in the creation of the nearby Museo Multimediale del Mare, which offers visitors the opportunity of discovering the fauna and flora typical of the area.
The Lighthouse terrace offers a spectacular view over the dense, varied vegetation and across the water, right at the point where the Ionian and Adriatic seas meet. The Lighthouse is also a place of archaeological interest as the access point to the Grotta dei Cervi, a natural coastal inlet which conserves important information on the Neolithic period.
