The Amphitheatre of Santa Maria Capua Vetere (CE) is the second largest in Italy, after the Colosseum. Built between the 1st and 2nd centuries C.E. to replace a previous arena which accommodated fewer spectators, it was one of the main settings for gladiator fights. The Gladiator Museum, annexed to the Amphitheatre, has recently included artefacts documenting the Arena’s decorations in its exhibition.
