Villa Levi Terrachini is located in the centre of Reggio Emilia, not far from piazza Fontanesi. Commissioned by the nobleman Roberto Levi and built in 1877, it is a refined villa, neo-Renaissance in style. The 18th-century atmosphere derives from a combination of architectural elements: the large arches on the entrance doors, the tympanum over the windows on the upper floor and the classical style balustrades on the terraces, balconies and French windows.
The ceilings inside are frescoed, each with different designs. On the ground floor a large atrium with decorated wooden panelling connects the three surrounding rooms. These include the former dining room of the villa, also with wooden panelling beneath a series of paintings of the cities and regions of Italy by Carlo Mancini of Piedmont who wanted to bring together the wide range of situations in the recently unified Italy. An elegant marble staircase leading upstairs has bronze banisters whose handrails are covered in velvet.
