The former abattoir of Rimini is an unused space in via Dario Campana which was recently reclaimed and rendered structurally safe by the Municipality. Inaugurated in 1937, it was designed with the most advanced techniques of the time. The structure was surrounded by a tall wall and comprised a wide corridor at the heart of the various areas destined for different types of animal, for offal and stabling. The second floor housed a large apartment for the guardian.
It was a working space until the 1970s, then the structure was profoundly altered when a residential building was built in the 1990s which required the destruction of the back fencing on the northern side. Rimini Town Council has recently reclaimed the part on via Dario Campana, the former guardian’s residence, converting it into a technological hub. Today part of the structure is used as a theatre for concerts, shows and conferences.
