The Civic Museum of Cuneo is housed in the picturesque setting of the Monumental Complex of St. Francis which comprises the former convent and the adjacent church which is classified as a national monument and a rare example of medieval architecture in the city.
The principal architectural elements display the multiple artistic approaches that were influential over the course of the centuries: the Gothic façade of the church, the bell tower, the 17th century cloister. Franciscan monks were probably already living here by the 13th century. Following various ups and downs from the Napoleonic invasion on, since 1980 the complex has been used for cultural activities and houses the Civic Museum.
The Museum exhibition routes display the history of the territory, from prehistory to the modern day. It has an ample library specialising in cultural heritage which is updated constantly. The museum provides public access to topographical, map and photographic archives including the Fondo Vacchetta and Fondo Scoffone.
