The lakefront of Cannobio is one of the most striking promenades on Lake Maggiore. Beginning at the southern tip in the Amore area, with a marble sculpture of a lion created by Giulio Branca to commemorate the borgo’s victorious defence against the Austrians in 1859, the path heads into the labyrinth of the old fishermen’s houses and leads to piazza Vittorio Emanuele III, the village centre. The colourful buildings that decorate the lakefront, dating between 1700s and 1800s, offer access to picturesque porticoes made lively by elegant shops and meeting places.
