The Cistercian Abbey of Casamari is located in the Casamari area of Veroli (province of Frosinone). It dates to 1203 and is one of the most important Cistercian Gothic monasteries in Italy.
The Abbey complex resembles French monasteries. Access is through the entrance porch with a triple arch in blocks of limestone. Inside, a Latin cross layout with three naves and weighty central columns has a cross vaulted ceiling.
Alongside the church are further buildings: the chapter house, meeting place for monastic communities, and refectory, featuring two naves and robust cylindrical columns.
The cloister, accessed from the church and the heart of the monastic complex, is a quadrangle lined with galleries beneath a semicylindrical roof. The southern gallery leads to a garden with a cedar tree, two pines, a statue of the Virgin Mary and two fountains.
The structure also has 13th century rooms with archaeological artefacts dating to Roman times, a library and a museum filled with artworks.
