The Castle of Faleria (province of Viterbo) was the residence of the local landowners, the Anguillara family, for centuries. Already in existence by 1200, it was used for public offices until the second half of the 1900s.
The façade plays with perspective with a range of architectural protrusions and niches and has a large covered loggiabuilt by Countess Maddalena Strozzi.
Part of the castle dates to the Renaissance, with three loggias in peperino (volcanic tuff) stone overlooking piazza della Collegiata. This wing was used by tenants and to store wheat.
The front section of the castle and several inside rooms were recently restored, including the sala della mola which conserves the ancient millstone used for grinding grain.
Only one of the castle towers is still visible but it cannot be visited. Serpents, the heraldic symbol of the Anguillara family, have been carved into the stone in several areas of the castle.
