The Mediterranean Garden is located at the western point of the Bibione peninsula (San Michele al Tagliamento, Venezia), overlooking the Adriatic Sea to the south, with the lagoon of Porto Baseleghe and the mouth of the Lovi canal behind.
This natural oasis stands on the river bank, its care is part of a cross-border cooperation programme between Italy and Slovenia (2007-2013) which included numerous works to requalify and reclaim the area with the introduction of flora typical of dune habitats.
The place features pristine landscapes and an exceptional range of flora that includes cornflower, orchids and different types of gentian. It is easy to spot the great tit, dove, blackcap and nightingale amidst the holm oaks, black pines and thick undergrowth in addition to migratory birds whose flocks fill the sky in September as they head southwards.
