Villa Allegri Arvedi stands in a dominant position over river Valpantena in Grezzana, just miles from Verona. Built in 1437 as a fortified residence for the Dal Verme family, the property passed to the Allegris in 1656 who commissioned the architect Giovanni Battista Bianchi to design its extension and restoration.
The villa has large reception rooms including the hall of the Titans, frescoed by Ludovico Dorigny with imposing figures from legend: Perseus and Medusa, the battle between Centaurs and Lapiths, Titans holding the signs of the zodiac. The salon is 20m long, 9m wide and 12m high. The bright sala dei Cesari (185 sqm) overlooks an iconic Italian style garden on one side and an inner courtyard with a small Baroque church on the other.
The villa also comprises a conference room, veranda and the aforementioned Italian garden. Bounded by a low wall, the garden is situated on a terrace in front of the villa and opens eastwards onto the drive and the countryside while the north side features a high wall as protection from cold winds. The majestic drive is lined with ancient box hedges trimmed in geometric shapes. In the centre is a fountain, the central focus of an articulated pattern of low box hedges.
