The complex that makes up the former psychiatric correctional hospital (OPG) in the historical centre of Reggio Emilia includes a significant, ancient building that was the monastery of the Order of Saints Maurice and Lazarus in 1675, and later modified and partially rebuilt in 1751 by architect Giambattista Cattani known as Cavallari.
In 1796 the monastery was incorporated into state property, converted into a prison and later used as a psychiatric hospital.
