Villa Campolieto was the residence of Prince Lucio of Sangro, Duke of Casacalenda in Ercolano (NA). Built in the 18th century to a design by the famous architect Luigi Vanvitelli, it has a panoramic position overlooking the sea and is considered the most beautiful of the Vesuvian Villas which add lustre to the part of the ancient Via Regia delle Calabrie known as the Golden Mile.
Four buildings are laid out in a quadrangle separated by a central gallery in the form of a Greek cross which has a central dome with four oval windows. Recent restoration work has returned Villa Campolieto to its original splendour with the enchanting terrace surrounded by an elegant porch overlooking the sea.
