With the Società Filarmonica of Trento in search of a concert hall since the 19th century (the previous space having become too small and the local municipality having prohibited the use of the town hall and closed the music school), its president Carlo Chiappani began negotiations to build a “music house”, on land belonging to the town in via Alessandro Vittoria. The project was entrusted to local architect Emilio Paor, renowned for his neo-Renaissance style in the construction and restoration of churches in the region.
The building was completed in a year with the inaugural concert taking place on 30 May 1905. In addition to a basement, there were 8 rooms on the mezzanine floor and a porter’s lodge, a concert hall and two rehearsal rooms on the first floor and three rooms on the second floor in addition to the hall’s upper seating.
It is substantially unchanged, except for some modifications on the mezzanine floor. The concert hall houses the indispensable accessories: a piano and an organ.
