Where it was filmed 'Tutti per 1-1 per tutti'

Summoned by Queen Anne of Austria (Margherita Buy), the elderly Musketeers – D’Artagnan (Pierfrancesco Favino), Porthos (Valerio Mastandrea), Athos (Rocco Papaleo) – arrive at the Royal Palace, whose rooms and exteriors are those of the 17th century Villa Doria Pamphilj in Rome.

The mission, to escort Princess Genevieve to the Dutch border takes our rickety heroes to Tuscany. The 17th-century France of Alexandre Dumas’ novels criss-crossed by the Musketeers on horseback was recreated in Grosseto, and the borgos of Roccalbegna, Scarlino, Castiglione della Pescaia and the natural setting of parco di Montioni in Follonica where filming took place in the alum quarries, in the area between the thermal waters of Baciocca and the bridge over the stream that flows through the park near the quarries.

In the province of Siena, locations included: Buonconvento (at Agriturismo La Ripolina), Pienza, Montepulciano, Castiglione, in the beech wood of the hamlet of Vivo d’Orcia, and San Quirico d’Orcia: an amusing sketch featuring the Musketeers and an unlikely attendant speaking dialect from southern Italy who sells melons, is set against a background of the picturesque Chapel della Madonna di Vitaleta, a distinctive element of Val d’Orcia.
