Race for Glory – Audi vs Lancia by Stefano Mordini focuses on the legendary achievement by charismatic Cesare Florio for Lancia in the 1983 World Rally Championship and the rivalry with the higher-rated Audi team.
Many episodes that took place in European states (Monte Carlo, Finland, Portugal etc.) and other foreign locations were shot in Italy.
Episodes were re-enacted in Piedmont, in particular, Turin and Orbassano where the offices and workshops of the Lancia headquarters were created; the Balocco circuit (in the province of Vercelli); and the roads of Mottarone, used for the start point of a race in Montecarlo - from the church in the hamlet of Coirmonte, through several hairpin bends in the direction of Armeno, and from the hairpin bends of Mottarone between lakes Maggiore and Orta. Locations also included Formazza and Domodossola in the province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola: and in val Formazza, in particular, the towns of San Michele, Riale and the Toce waterfall.
Scenes were set in the Stellantis complex with the use of courtesy cars provided by Lancia.
The film also featured Sanremo and the nearby municipalities of Ospedaletti and Perinaldo in Liguria. The scenes in the "city of flowers", with 200 local extras, used the casino and entrance yard as a backdrop.
Other locations included Tuscany, in particular, scenic Val d'Orcia; and Lazio, Allumiere, Civitavecchia and Tolfa (the Frangipane fortress here reminiscent of a rural village in Greece).
