Villa Doria Pamphilj is a historical residence that includes one of the largest public parks in Rome, located just outside the walls of the Janiculum neighbourhood. The vast green area of almost 2 sq km includes Italian gardens, fountains and troughs, streams and a lake populated with a wide range of birds and turtles.
Designed in the 1600s by Alessandro Algardi and Francesco Grimaldi and previously a country residence for the prominent Doria Pamphilj family, the Villa now belongs to the Municipality of Rome. It consists of three separate areas that are closely connected: the Casino dell’Algardi (also known as the Casino del Bel Respiro) an official reception building for the Prime Minister of Italy which features Italian gardens in pure Renaissance style; the pine forest and the agricultural estate, for a total of 180 hectares.
