Although Alessio Cremonini’s story is set in the Middle East, in Syria, it was shot entirely in Italy.
He chose several places in Apulia to act as the background to the struggle and encounter between two Western women who have made diametrically opposite life decisions. Sara (Jasmine Trinca) is an Italian journalist in Syria to report on the Islamic State’s war, while Nur (Isabella Nefar) is a fighter radicalised in London, married to an IS soldier and living in the so-called Caliphate.
Sara is kidnapped by Isis but, considered inferior as a woman, cannot be imprisoned with male prisoners. So she is jailed in Nur’s house, in the midst of an IS training camp, mostly built in Palo del Colle (Bari). The house and the camp become the setting for a psychological as well as physical war, as Nur attempts to convert Sara to the cause using cunning tricks and careful silences.
Other locations included Bitonto, the ancient Piaggio neighbourhood in Gravina in Puglia and Murgia Franchini in Altamura.

Profeti is the story of the encounter and struggle between Sara, an Italian reporter kidnapped by ISIS while reporting on the war in Syria, and Nur, a young foreign fighter married to an ISIS soldier who acts as her jailer in a house built inside a training camp. During Sara’s imprisonment, Nur attempts to convert her to extremist Islam, following the camp leader’s orders and her own desire to proselytize.
