The three Calatrava Bridges, named after the engineer - architect who designed them, are located on the A1 motorway and have become the new gates to the city of Reggio Emilia. Specifically, these are a central arched bridge and two side cable-stayed bridges, it is architecture intended to be observed in motion, removing borders, allowing free movement, combining form with structure and making art dialogue with science.
These bridges are part of a project to reclaim the area to the north of the city. The “Le Vele” architectural complex also includes the futuristic wave shaped roof of the highway toll booth and the new high speed train station of Reggio Emilia AV Mediopadana.
