Vizzano Bridge, suspended over river Reno, is located in Sasso Marconi, 20km from Bologna, on via degli Dei and via della Lana e della Seta. It was first built in Roman times when the crossing was essential in linking Bologna with Rome and Florence.
The present-day structure, dating to 1949, is the latest in a series of reconstructions that followed destruction and damage caused by flooding and war. During the 1996 reconstruction, the entire metal structure was replaced with new supporting steel cables.
