The area of Cilento, which stretches between the plain of Paestum and the Gulf of Sapri lying entirely within the boundaries of the province of Salerno, counts three UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the archaeological areas of Paestum and Velia and the Certosa (Charterhouse) of Padula. It also includes some of the most beautiful coastal areas in the region of Campania: Palinuro, Ascea, Ogliastro and Camerota. Sheer cliffs dropping to the sea, golden beaches, wild countryside with pristine nature and wide bays with beach facilities alternate for almost 100 km of coastline. The area is part of the National Park del Cilento Vallo di Diano ed Alburni which includes mountain landscapes, Mediterranean undergrowth, woods, trails, waterfalls and rivers, hillside villages and historic borghi.
