Carrara is the biggest hub in the world for mining and processing the famous Carrara marble, a precious marble found in the nearby Apuan Alps. The oldest part of the city is made up of the Pieve di Sant’Andrea, which dates back to the 13th century and is today home to a beautiful Cathedral. Other historical buildings of interest include the Ducal Castle (Palazzo Cybo Malaspina) in Piazza Alberica, the Accademia di Belle Arti, and the Suffragio Church.
