Cles Castle is located on the top of an isolated hill on the shore of lake Santa Giustina in an area surrounded by apple orchards not far from Cles (Trento). Its initial construction dates to the 12th century, and a Renaissance style was later incorporated by bishop Bernardo Clesio, whose family owned the castle. The structure was permanently damaged by historical events and the barons of Cles were forced to demolish one of the three towers.
The original nucleus of the complex consisted of the ancient tower with residential buildings overlooking the inner courtyard protected by a second curtain wall. The façade features a series of arches, windows and arrow slits and is frescoed with allegorical scenes and heraldic motifs. Similar themes are depicted in the 16th century frescoes that decorate the interior of the castle. The central hall, known as the hall of Ovid's Metamorphosis, has an elegant coffered ceiling.
