Known in ancient times as Mazzarelli, from the Arabic Marsa a' Rillah, Marina di Ragusa was a landing stage for seafarers escaping pirates or storms at sea. Given its clear waters and pretty beaches, the little fishing village became a beach destination from 1960.
Located approximately 25km from Ragusa in south-eastern Sicily, not far from the towns of Santa Croce Camerina, Donnalucata, Scicli and Punta Secca, the hamlet has a long sandy beach that ends at the harbour to the west and a little before the Riserva dell’Irminio to the east.
Lungomare Andrea Doria has a pedestrian-cycle path that is over 2km long, a row of palm trees that gives an exotic touch and a vibrant nightlife. The tourist harbour at the end features Art Deco villas with gardens and welcomes boats of all types.
