The ruins found in the historical centre of Palazzo Adriano (PA), a town set amidst the lush vegetation of inland Sicily, bear witness to the meeting of two different civilisations, culture and religions: Greek-Albanian and Latin. The village was founded in the 15th century by a group of Greek Albanians fleeing Saracen persecution. This history is clear to see in the architectural styles of the castle and churches; the ancient fortifications and arches demonstrating the need to defend the settlement.
The historical centre features piazza Umberto I with a 17th century fountain on an octagonal layout and the churches of Madonna del Lume (Latin rites) and Maria Santissima Assunta (Greek-Byzantine rite).
