Little Borgo Cascino, a hamlet of the municipality of Enna, was founded during the large-scale agrarian reforms of the Fascist Era and takes its name from Sicilian General Antonino Cascino, awarded a Gold Medal during WWI. Its design was entrusted to the architect Giuseppe Marletta of Catania.
A small hilltop borgo was added to the existing rural homesteads spread out in the countryside, with the goal of making it the centre of a future village with a rectangular central square, single-naved church, rural school, post office and civic tower.
The style is typical of the time: simple, austere lines that evoke the Roman age but also answer to the needs of the settlement. The borgo has now lost its original purpose with only a few families left in the larger rural area and the post office the only remaining service. In its state of semi-abandonment, the place has maintained a genuine and picturesque atmosphere.
