The Castle of Mesagne resembles a precious noble palace, an impressive manor watching over the town, the embodiment of centuries of transformations. The big corner tower with embrasures, the walls on its lower part, the internal courtyard and the square layout all indicate the original military function of this building, which today welcomes visitors, its façades embellished by a Renaissance loggia. A wooden portal and two openings for harquebus can still made out on the main gateway to the castle, where the drawbridge was probably positioned to provide access across a moat that is no longer visible today. The southern part of the castle, with its large 18th century decorated windows, can be admired from the nearby Piazza Orsini del Balzo.
