The Tappeiner is a 6 km walk overlooking the centre of Merano from high up Monte San Zeno, stretching along monte Benedetto to Quarazze.
Accessible from the old town of Merano and the Gilf passeggiata, with various stretches through the Merano vineyards, it is characterized above all by lush Mediterranean vegetation and a fantastic view of Merano and Burgraviato.
The walk was financed by Franz Tappeiner, a physician, botanist and anthropologist (1816–1902) from Lasa in Val Venosta, who settled in Merano in 1848 after studying medicine and left a significant mark on the city's spa activity.
