The Dolmen of San Silvestro in Giovinazzo (BA) is a Bronze Age cultural and funerary monument, dating to approximately 3,500 years ago. It stands on one of the flat terraces of the Murgia area of coastal Bari, in a grove of olives and carob trees, inside a natural park of 9,000 sqm which is equipped to welcome visitors. Its size and excellent state of conservation make it a particularly representative example of chamber tomb dolmen, also documented by other examples in the Bari territory (Dolmen di Bisceglie and Corato). Following its fortuitous discovery in 1961, an intervention of conservation restoration has ensured that the monument can be visited despite exposure to the elements.
The Dolmen of San Silvestro is reached by the SP 107 from Giovinazzo to Terlizzi. The parking area is at 3.8 km marker, to the right. The site begins just after the entrance gate and leads to the Dolmen.
The state property area is entirely fenced with the exception of the opposite parking area of approximately 350 square meters, adjacent to the Giovinazzo-Terlizzi provincial road, where there is the only driveway.
Info-point for the reception inside, equipped with bathrooms for visitors and disabled people.
Water system not drinkable.
Lighting system dedicated to the dolmen and inside the info-point, where there is also an emergency one in the event of a power failure.
The entire area is equipped with an anti-intrusion system and video surveillance.
