Brunico Castle - Messner Mountain Museum Ripa

Messner Mountain Museum Ripa, Schlossweg, Bruneck, South Tyrol, Italy

Description

Brunico Castle is located on a hill above the town of Brunico. It was built in 1250 by the town’s prince-bishop, Bruno von Kirchberg.
Continual extensions and conversions followed, based upon the purpose of the castle. There was an extensive refurbishment in the late nineteenth century.
In 2011, Reinhold Messner inaugurated his fifth mountain museum here. Surrounded by mountain farms, MMM Ripa is dedicated to the mountain people of Asia, Africa, South America and Europe. In fact, in Tibetan "ri" means 'mountain' and "pa" means 'man'.
