Protected by the Ministry of Culture and property of the Rosso family, the last feudal lords of Caprarica, since 1780, the Castle of Caprarica di Lecce, which incorporates an ancient castrum, documented since 1533, demonstrates the effect of aristocratic architecture which transformed the castle into a baronial palace.
The inner atrium can accommodate 250 seats. The garden provides access to the 19th century tower which is linked to a wide terrace. The monumental staircase leads to the piano nobile with the hall of mirrors, decorated with 18thcentury paintings and furniture, the dining room and the hall of the crest whose flooring features the heraldic shield of the Rossi family. The structure also includes a consecrated chapel.
Adjacent to the garden, the ancient oven, fireplace and the 16th century cellar are perfectly preserved and fully working. There are also several cisterns, a snow room (neviera) and five underground presses with imposing millstones and basins.
