Villa del Mulinaccio is situated in Vaiano (province of Prato), in val di Bisenzio. The building has changed hands and purpose many times over the course of the centuries: the most ancient part was commissioned by Cosimo Sassetti between the late 15th and early 16th centuries; a century later, ownership passed to the Strozzi family and then to the Vai family until 1956.
The villa complex is articulated around a courtyard, comprising the various buildings and storehouses that were added and included in the property. The Renaissance façade of the 16th century building has severe lines, with rectangular windows and an arched portal. Stretching out from the building, the lawn features an octagonal ornamental pond and a terrace overlooking the valley.
The rooms with vaulted ceilings were originally used as a winery, connected to the other working buildings such as the oil press, cellars and storerooms.
The southern wing and the baroque Chapel of St. Anthony Abbot were added in 1722. A renaissance wooded area and garden with nymphaeum stretch out to the north. Restructured in 2003 by the municipality, the villa is today a multifunctional space.
