Palazzo della Gran Guardia in piazza Bra, Verona, is a monumental building with a vast portico intended for military purposes and used for cavalry exercises. Work began in 1610 and was completed around the mid-19th century.
Spread over two storeys, the lower floor features ashlar stone work (many of the stones come from the Arena) and 13 arches while the piano nobile has large, regularly positioned windows beneath alternating triangular and curved pediments.
Today the palace is used as a conference and exhibition centre, making use of the multiple levels and different dimensions of the rooms.
