Palazzo Chiericati, a masterpiece designed in 1550 by Andrea Palladio, is located in piazza Matteotti, Vicenza. Embellished by frescoes and stuccowork and host to one of the most prestigious civic collections of paintings, sculptures and applied arts from the 13th to 20th centuries in Europe, Palazzo Chiericati was inscribed as UNESCO World Heritage for its exceptional cultural importance.
The ground floor of the palace hosts the sala del Firmamento and sala d’Ercole, with 16th century decorations and a fresco by Domenico Brusasorzi, and the sala del Concilio degli Dei decorated by Battista Zelotti, with white and gold plasterwork by Bartolomeo Ridolfi and grotesque designs by Eliodoro Forbicini.
The 16th century part of the piano nobile offers frescoes by Domenico Brusasorzi (sala delle Virtù Civili) and Battista del Moro (sala della Colonna Traiana), while the ceilings in the 15th century part feature paintings by Cristoforo Menarola and Bartolomeo Cittadella amidst white and gold plasterwork.
In 2012, access to the ancient foundations of the 14/15th century “casette Chiericati” and the service areas was reopened in the basement.
