Medieval in origin, the town of Tresignana (Ferrara) was created in 2019 by fusing the municipalities of Tresigalloand Formignana, situated on the banks of the Po di Volano, in the heart of the Po Valley.
Tresigallo is the only founding city recognised as an art city and, thanks to its unusual geometrical elements and colours is known as the "metaphysical city". The area boasts excellent cuisines and is included in the "wine and flavours route".
A borgo of medieval origins, this small centre was completely transformed in the 1930s by Mussolini’s government as part of the attempt to build an innovative architectural city on Rationalist principles. Today this makes it a “little museum of architecture” in the heart of an unusual rural setting.
While it is known for its linear urban layout and Rationalist buildings, Tresigallo also conserves a fine example of 16thcentury architecture, Palazzo Pio, built between 1517 and 1531, probably as an elegant residence for hunting parties, by Alessandro Feruffino, Duke Alfonso I d’Este’s captain of militia.
