Val di Fiemme in Trentino is one of the main valleys of the Dolomites extending along the Avisio river, between the Lagorai and Latemar mountains.
The valley is enclosed between two protected areas: the Paneveggio – Pale di San Martino Natural Park and the Monte Corno Natural Park.
The Paneveggio forest is natural woodland heritage, monumental in terms of both its size and the variety of its fauna. Thanks to its exceptional acoustic characteristics, the wood of the Paneveggio forest -mainly spruce - is used to make the most precious of bowed and plucked instruments and accordingly is nicknamed the "Forest of Violins".
The main towns of Val di Fiemme, popular tourist destinations in both summer and winter, include Tesero, Cermis, Cavalese, Predazzo and Pampeago. With 110 km of downhill slopes included in the Dolomiti Superski area and 150 km of trails in two cross-country ski centres, the valley is a popular destination for winter sports.
