Ferruzzano (Reggio Calabria) is located 476m above sea level, standing on a terrace over the costa dei Gelsomini. Facing the Ionian sea with the eastern mountains of the Aspromonte range behind, the historical centre – Ferruzzano Superiore – offers a spectacular view, especially from piazza Belvedere and the tre Calvari. The ancient residential nucleus, a labyrinth of small houses, gardens, terraces and portals, is mostly uninhabited as is the picturesque hamlet of Saccuti, which welcomed some of the population after earthquakes and now fills up in summer as the emigrants return.
Not far from the historical centre is the comprensorio di Ferruzzano, whose numerous paths and itineraries featuring fountains and natural springs are very popular with day trippers and nature lovers. Popular summer destinations include the hamlet of Ferruzzano Marina and the promontory of Capo Bruzzano, which offers a spectacular view of the coast and the cliffs from the pine forest.
