Built in the 13th century, the imposing Castle of Pergine dominates the upper Valsugana and lake Caldonazzo. It was the property of the dukes of Austria under the reigns of Margarete Maultasch and Emperor Maximilian I.
The complex is divided into two walled defence systems comprising a keep, medieval towers and Renaissance-era residential buildings. The imposing octagonal pillar which supports a vaulted ceiling in the entrance hall is original both historically and architecturally. The prigione (prison) della goccia, the fireplace room (renowned for popular fantasies about the appearance of a mysterious white lady), the throne room and the Chapel of St. Andrew on the first floor are all worthy of note. The five rooms on the second floor and the garden are used for exhibitions.
