Lake Kaltern is the largest lake for swimming in Alto Adige and the warmest in the whole Alpine region.
It is surrounded by the vineyards of Southern Alto Adige, and is located about 4 km from Kaltern and 14 km from Bolzano. The lake is about 1.8 km long and 0.9 km wide, with a surface area of about 155 hectares. It is 4 m deep and lies at an altitude of 216 m above sea level, offering ideal conditions for sailing and windsurfing. During the coldest of winters, the lake freezes over completely.
