Piazza Carignano, now a pedestrian square near via Roma in Turin, has a rectangular shape and is flanked by Via Accademia delle Scienze, Via Cesare Battisti and Via Principe Amedeo. The imposing Baroque façade of Palazzo Carignano, a symbol of the Unification of Italy and seat of the first Italian Parliament, dominates the square. Across the square stand the Teatro Carignano and several venerable institutions of Turin, including the famous "Ristorante del Cambio" and the historic "Gelateria Pepino".
Its concise size, the monumental presence of Palazzo Carignano’s curved facade, behind which is the equally historic Piazza Carlo Alberto, and the nearby cluster of prestigious institutions, including the Museum of Egyptian Antiquities, make this one of the most artistically, historically and monumentally evocative squares in the historical centre of Turin, capital of Piedmont.
