The Caracciolo Castle is an ancient Angevin fortress that rises at the summit of the medieval borgo of Brienza (PZ). A stone staircase leads to an embankment with the entrance to the manor. Restructured numerous times in its history, the cylindrical keep and a semi-circular tower have remained from the original structure, rising respectively from the imposing bulk and walled perimeter. Ongoing restoration of the castle has unearthed original ancient flooring and two statues in local stone.
Legend holds that the castle had 365 rooms, one for each day of the year, and a dungeon which protected the treasure of the White Lady who lived there in 1300s.
Today the borgo and the manor house often host exhibitions, concerts, events and historical re-enactments.
