Belmonte Calabro (province of Cosenza) is one of the most interesting and best conserved historical centres in the lower Tyrrhenian area. The village has a typically medieval structure with old houses terraced along narrow, winding alleys, noble residences that open onto tiny squares, characteristic medieval arches, hanging gardens and steep staircases. The historic centre conserves some of the ancient city walls that served to defend the inhabitants in the past.
The historic centre features Palazzo Pignatelli, on via IV Novembre, which was built in the early 1600s by prince Antonio Pignatelli, and numerous residences belonging to storied baronial families.
The coastline features Marina di Belmonte, with 17th century Palazzo del Rivellino, the Scogli di Isca WWF marine reserve and the Church of St. Paschal Baylon.
