The Gothic Palace of the Dukes of Cantelmo in Atina (FR) was built on the highest point of the town in 1349, commissioned by Restaino Cantelmi. The palace remained in the family until 1458, then passed from one noble family to another until 1870 when it was bought by the Comune.
It has a square layout with two towers on the Eastern front. The 5m high façade has a large entrance way with a pointed arch, 3 double windows on the piano nobile and several wheel windows. The piano nobile houses the Palatine Chapel dedicated to St. Onofrio with a late 15th century fresco of Madonna col Bambino e San Giovanni Battista in the entranceway and several 15th century frescoes by painters from Campania. The salone di rappresentanza houses an imposing Roman mosaic in black and white found in via Viriliassi in 1946 of a warrior in four different fighting positions.
In addition to being the town hall, the Palazzo hosts exhibitions, conferences and events.
