Fort Verle stands on the Vezzena plateau at a height of 1,506 metres, between the Busa Verle and Cima Verle mountain huts, near the Trento - Vicenza border. Built between 1907 and 1914, it was, with other fortifications, the most advanced defensive line on the border between the Austro-Hungarian empire and the kingdom of Italy, intended to block the access road to the Asiago plateau.
The structure extends along a single line with four successive levels, which develop across two floors adapting to the difference in ground level. The main building is approximately 70 meters long, its rooms were originally used for hospital areas and positions for close combat. The fort also featured revolving domes, armoured tunnels and an external moat. Today it is a ruin although much of the imposing structure is still visible.
