Fort Larino is an Austro-Hungarian military fortress situated in Lardaro (Trento), at the point where valle del Chiese narrows, allowing for excellent control of the adjacent territory. It was built in 1860 to defend the road from Brescia which had recently become Italian. It was an example of fortified architecture with scalpel-worked blocks of granite and surrounded entirely by a moat.
It played an important role in the third war of independence and in WWI. It was part of the Lardaro Barrier fortification system which also included forts Corno (to which it is linked by a path), Danzolino, Cariola, Revegler. It was restructured between 2006 and 2008.
Easily reached by car, the fort has a large outside space and parking area. It has water, electricity and toilet facilities, it can also be heated. During wartime, it could accommodate 100/150 people. Adjacent buildings are suitable for holding meetings, conferences or similar events.
